The Township of Montville

The Township of Montville is a municipal corporation which was established by special charter of the New Jersey State Legislature in 1867. The Township is a suburban community located in the County of Morris in northern New Jersey. Montville Township is 20 square miles and comprised of 3 sections or towns:  Montville, Towaco and Pine Brook. As of 2010, the township's population was 21,528, reflecting an increase of +3.3% over the 2000 Census and showing a pattern of steady growth. Money (R) Magazine ranked Montville 13th in   the nation of the 2013 “Best Places to Live”, the second-highest among the three places in New Jers  ey included in the top 50 list. The township was also ranked 17th in the magazine's 2011 ranking of the "Best Places to Live", the highest-ranked place in New Jersey, after having been ranked 13th in 2007. Often in the top 50 places to live, Montville is a thriving and close-knit community. New areas of business are being developed in all areas of the Township making it an excellent area to consider when looking to relocate or start a business.




Montville

Montville is the central portion of the Township and is where the Municipal Complex, the Public Library, Community Park Recreation Center, High School, Robert R. Lazar Middle School, Police Department, First Aid Squad, Community Gardens, The Barn Theater and Chamber Office are all located. The main thoroughfare through Montville, Changebridge Road (County Hwy-621) connects the Pine Brook and Towaco sections of the township.  Along its 4.5 mile route are businesses, shopping, homes, historic buildings, condominiums, places of worship, and Lake Montowac.  U.S. Route 202 runs along the northern corridor and connects Lincoln Park to Boonton.  Montville was home to two inclined planes that lifted boats to higher elevations along the Morris Canal (circa 1825).  Changebridge Road was named for the mule crossing bridge built across the canal its northern end. 


Pine Brook

Pine Brook is an unincorporated community located within the southern section of Montville Township. With easy access to major roads, and with great shopping, restaurants and corporate and industrial parks, Pine Brook serves as the entryway to Montville Township from many other towns in the area. Because of the readily available public transportation on U.S. Route 46 and easy access to Interstate 80, it is a great place to have a business.


Towaco

Towaco is an unincorporated community located within Montville Township. Its name reflects the Native American history in the area, which identified the locale as TaWagh, meaning "hill", a reference to the beautiful terrain of Towaco. The Towaco train station offers New Jersey Transit rail service along the Montclair-Boonton Line, making it an ideal community for commuters. On either side of the station is Towaco Crossing, which includes various shops, businesses and Rails Steakhouse, and Towaco Village Center with eateries, businesses and shops.
